Writing portfolio
The written word has always been a vital part of my life. Journalism taught me how to use words to expose and persuade. Brite Divinity School showed me the power of words in regards to theology and academic discourse. And in the classroom, I was able to use my words to entertain and educate.
Professional
Fort Worth ISD
Being a French teacher allowed me to flex my creative muscles and push myself in my second langauge.
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
The local newpaper, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, has been good to me. A travel piece I wrote while on staff hit the national wires (a personal source of pride), and I've written columns for the outlet periodically for more than a decade.
- Column: "Airlines got bailouts, we get flight delays. Where's Congress?"
- Column: "Students who need the most help will be hit hardest by cuts in funding"
- Column: "GEN-Y: Trying to keep spirits up while looking for work"
- Article: "Rite of passage"
Personal and academic
My career has centered on the newsroom and the classroom, but my postgraduate training was in theology.
- Advent devotional for Trinity Chapel Bible Church
- Excerpt: "The Quest" skit for Trinity Chapel Bible Church's children's ministry
- Excerpt: "E-hate: how religious violence is adapting to the online world," Brite Divinity School
- Excerpt: "Loved in the image of God: countering legalism and making the church a place of healing," Brite Divinity School
